Habitat: Growing in a lowland hardwood forest that occurs on large bedrock blocks; Partial tree canopy of Fraxinus nigra, Quercus macrocarpa, and Acer rubrum. Diervilla lonicera, Rubus strigosus, and a variety of Carex and mosses are common below.
