Habitat: In the brushy understory of a bur oak woods ... Associated with Viburnum rafinesquianum, V. lentago, Prunus virginiana, Zanthoxylum americanum, Crataegus chrysocarpa.
Description: Est. 3-5 days past peak anthesis. A shrub with a single stem 2 m tall, and 3 cm basal dia. Stamens ca 10; anthers pink. Simple thorns fairly abundant, compound thorns absent.
