Habitat: dry oak forest dominated by Quercus ellipsoidalis with occasional populus tremuloides. Light brown, medium-grained, loamy-sand. Moderate, southwest-facing slope on rolling, morainal topography. Associates include Amphicarpaea bracteata, Pyrola secunda, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Ostrya virginiana.
