Habitat: alluvial forest on interior portions of [island]. Canopy dominated by Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Ulmus americana, Acer saccharinum, and A. negundo. Open understory. Dense and tall herbaceous layer dominated by Laportea canadensis. Silty soil. Additional associates include Matteuccia struthiopteris, Galium triflorum, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Elymus virginicus, Festuca subverticillata, Carex assiniboinensis, C. blanda, C. hirtifolia.
