Habitat:
In a forest with Quercus macrocarpa. Subcanopy interrupted, with Carya cordiformis, Prunus serotina, Tilia americana. Associates include Rhamnus cathartica, Ribes spp., Zanthoxylum americanum. Patchy ground layer with Desmodium glutinosum, Lithospermum latifolium, Thalictrum, Pyrola elliptica, Viola canadense, Circea [sic] lutetiana, Geum canadense, and Asarum canadense.
