Habitat: in dense shade of old growth nothern [sic] hardwood forest dominated by Acer saccharum. Loamy soils of gentle east-facing slope. Open understory and sparse herbaceous cover. With B. matricariifolium, Aralia nudicaulis, Clintonia borealis, Acer seedlings.
