Habitat: Level sandy outwash plain ... in ecotone between dry woodland and old field (recently planted with young Pinus resinosa) in an area grazed by cattle in the past (old pasture). Full sun to partial shade of Populus tremuloides and Quercus macrocarpa. Dry sandy soil. Associated species include Heuchera richardsonii, Fragaria virginiana, Poa pratensis, Agropyron repens, Phleum pratense, Andropogon ferardii.
Description: Large patch, hundreds of plants. Primocanes low-arching to reclining on vegetation, to 40+ inches long. Floricanes arching to low-arching, tips mostly browsed/winter-killed.
