Habitat: In a long-abandoned taconite tailings basin ... Habitat about 30 years old; mostly open but with scattered individuals and groves of Populus balsamifera. In relatively coarse silty substrate (tailings). Growing in nearly full sunlight. Associated with Spiranthes casei, S. cernua, S. lacera, Liparis loeselii, Platanthera flava var. herbiola.
