Habitat: strongly rolling forested terrain...Dry-mesic hardwood forest dominated by Quercus rubra, with frequent Acer rubrum, Quercus macrocarpa, and Populus tremuloides, Understory with Ostrya virginiana, Corylus cornuta, and C. americana most abundant. Cobbly sandy-loam. Associated species include Oryzopsis asperifolia, Carex pensylvanica, Amphicarpaea bracteata, Osmorhiza claytonii, Aster macrophyllus, Pteridium aquilinum, Thalictrum dioicum, Asclepias exaltata, Uvularia sessiliflora, Maianthemum canadense, Crataegus chrysocarpa, Rubus strigosus.
