Habitat: Under a closed canopy in a bur oak woodland ... Associated with Viburnum rafinesquianum, Cornus foemina ssp. racemosa, Amelanchier intermedia, Crataegus chrysocarpa, Corylus americana.
Description: A small single-stemmed understory tree. Height: 3.7 m; dbh: 9 cm. Stamens ca 10, anthers pink. compound thorns absent, simple thorns few. 3-5 days pre-anthesis (spring 1 1/2 weeks late this year). Nearby specimens have white anthers.
