Habitat: Rolling forested maraine...a dozen mature trees in small natural grove on low ridge. An additional dozen Pinus strobus stumps (cut 20-30 years ago) here. In mesic hardwood forest dominated by Tilia americana, Acer saccharum, Quercus rubra, Q. macrocarpa, and Populus tremuloides. Trees are 18-28 inches D.B.H. here. Seedlings uncommon, those here are all heavily browsed. Sandy loam. Additional associates include Betula papyrifera, Viburnum rafinesquianum, Carex pensylvanica, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Polygonatum pubescens, Uvularia grandiflora, Galium boreale.
