mature boreal hardwood-conifer forest dominated by Betula papyrifera, Tilia americana, Abies balsamea & Picea glauca. Open canopy. Dense woody understory / shrub layer. Rocky soil with frequent bedrock exposures. Associates include Carex intumescens, C. radiata, C. deweyana, C. arctata, C. pedunculata, Viola incognita, Corylus cornuta, Rubus strigosus, Lonicera canadensis, Lycopodium dendroideum.
