Habitat: Swampy forest (seepage zone?) dominated by large Fraxinus nigra, smaller Ulmus americana, with F. nigra, F. pennsylvanica, U. americana, Acer negundo saplings. Among shrubs were Viburnum trilobum and Corylus cornuta. Soil ca. 20 cm black muck over pure orangish sand ... Associate with Carex deweyana, C. stipata, Rubus strigosus, Cicuta maculata, Equisetum pratense.
