Habitat: Located at the foot of steep slopes; growing in black ash swamp dominated by Fraxinus nigra and F. pennsylvanica. In very wet muck soil with much groundwater seepage. Assoc. with Symplocarpus foetidus, Impatiens capensis, Caltha palustris, Ribes americanum.
