Habitat: along a west-facing sandstone escarpment...plants occur along the steep, rocky slope wooded with Acer saccharum and Pinus strobus. Associated with Ostrya virginiana, Sambucus pubens, Desmodium glutinosum, Lathyrus venosus var. intonsus, Corallorhiza maculata.
