Habitat: Strongly-rolling terrain on the southeast shore ... On lower portion of extremely steep, 90-foot, north-facing slope forming the shore of the lake here. Patchy canopy of Betula papyrifera, with scattered Tilia americana and Pinus strobus. Dense understory of Corylus cornuta and Cornus rugosa, with scattered young Pinus strobus, Picea glauca, and Abies balsamea. Rooted in mosses which carpet the ground here. Additional associates include Carex pensylvanica, C. peckii, Pyrola secunda, P. asarifolia, Galium boreale, Aquilegia canadensis, Solidago flexicaulis, Maianthemum canadense, Smilacina stellata.
