Deep, saturated peat. Associates include Platanthera obtusata, Listera cordata, Goodyera repens, Mitella nuda, Linnaea borealis, Cornus canadensis, Circaea alpina, Trientalis borealis, Moneses uniflora, Gaultheria hispidula, Amerorchis rotundifolia, Cypripedium reginae, Coptis groenlandica, Galium triflorum, Gaultheria hispidula, Carex leptalea, C. disperma.
