Habitat: Gently-rolling sandy terrain ... in poor fen on margin of poor black spruce swamp. Full sun to partial shade of stunted Picea mariana, Larix laricina, and Pinus banksiana. Dense cover of Ericaceous shrubs including Ledum groenlandicum and Chamaedaphne calyculata. Saturated peat. In continuous carpets of Sphagnum spp. mosses, often on hummocks. Forming dense clumps. Additional associates include Vaccinium oxycoccus, Smilacina trifolia.
