Habitat: Rolling terrain ... nearly level ground atop 20 to 30-foot, south-facing slope. Small, degraded prairie remnant adjacent to oak forest and old field. Full sun to partial shade of large, open-grown Quercus macrocarpa. Sandy-gravelly soil. Associates include Andropogon gerardii, Poa pratensis, Carex pellita, Petalostemum purpureum, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Rosa sp., Carduus acanthoides.

Description: Patch of many dozen plants. florocanes arching to low-arching, to 30 inches long *18 inches tall), few with inflorescences. Primocanes erect to arching, to 24" long.
