In moderately grazed steeply rolling prairie in Alexandria Moraine complex. Excessively drained coarse sandy loam soil, very stony...along ridge-like hill crest and eroded W-facing sopes...on road-cut slope. Associated spp.: Bouteloua gracilis, Carex eleocharis, Schizachyrium scoparium, Solidago nemoralis, Artemisia frigida.
