Habitat: Moderately open forest of Quercus macrocarpa with some Populus tremuloides and Picea glauca. Nearly pure sand soil. Understory mostly Quercus saplings and Prunus. Herbaceous layer of Tradescantia, Polygonatum, Toxicodendron, Hypericum, Smilacina and Poa.
