Habitat: In more or less full sunlight at the margin of a mesic deciduous forest (oak-maple-basswood) ... Associated with Cornus foemina ssp. racemosa, Viburnum trilobum, V. lentago, Sambucus pubens, Zanthoxylum americanum.
Description: A dense, much-branching shrub 3 m tall with a single stem 10 cm dia at the base. Stamens ca 10, anthers white (becoming reddish-brown). No compound thorns. 3-4 days past peak of anthesis (season one week late). Collected from the same stem as #25934 (fruiting specimen).
