Habitat: In alluvial forest on terrace a few feet above river level. Mature trees (to ~20 inches D.B.H.) in canopy with Fraxinus nigra and F. pennsylvanica. Organic silt substrate. Additional associates include Viburnum trilobum, Menispermum canadense, Parthenocissus inserta, Carex radiata, C. sprengelii, Elymus virginicus, Phalaris arundinacea, Laportea canadensis, Eupatorium rugosum, Geum canadense, Equisetum arvense.
