Habitat: Along the shore...in steep, dry, blocky, lichen-encrusted talus / boulder field above 40 foot, southeast-facing, basalt cliffs...Associates include Aralia hispida, Rubus strigosus, Picea glauca, Sorbus decora, Woodsia ilvensis...along with Betula papyrifera in canopy of adjacent, sparse-canopied, birch forest on gradually sloping terrain
