Habitat: Rugged terrain...in old-growth northern hardwood forest...Canopy dominated by Acer saccharum, with frequent Betula allegheniensis, and occasional Picea glauca. Understory dominated by Acer saccharum. Rocky, loamy soil. Gradual north to northwest-facing slope on upper part of ridge. Associates include Oryzopsis asperifolia, Clintonia borealis, Streptopus roseus, Lycopodium lucidulum, Acer spicatum.
