Habitat:
Growing on north-facing slope in ravine; In area disturbed by past logging and heavy grazing. On thin, bare soils under open canopy dominated by Populus grandidentata and Betula papyrifera. Associated with Carex pensylvanica, Equisetum scirpoides, Mitella diphylla.
