Habitat: In small (1-acre) dry prairie / savanna remnant on upper portion of steep, southwest-facing slope of 25-foot high riverbank terrace, and adjacent level area atop the terrace at edge of dry oak woodland. Sandy soil. Mostly in full sun. Associates include Schizachrium scoparium, Andropogon gerardii, Bouteloua curtipendula, B. gracilis, Elymus canadensis, Stipa spartea, Koeleria macrantha, Artemisia campestris, Aster sericeus, Cerastium arvense, Selaginella rupestris, Potentilla argentea, P. arguta, Penstemon gracilis, Aster ericoides, Viola pedatifida, Linum sulcatum, Amorpha canescens.
