Habitat: in and along mown grassy recreational trail (ATV, horse?) and in nearby forest openings. Soil sandy loam. forest a mix of Pinus banksiana and Pinus resinosa with lesser amounts of Betula papyrifera with frequent canopy gaps (~50-75% cover). Associate species in forest opening include Corylus cornuta, Lathyrus ochroleucus, Achillea millefolium, Solidago nemoralis, Andropogon gerardii, Bromus kalmii, Maianthemum canadensis, Pedicularis canadensis, Liatris sp., and Antennaria neglecta.
