Habitat: Northern very wet ash swamp native plant community. Very poorly drained muck substrate with many pools averaging 5cm deep. Surface water pH 6.2. Pit and mound topography evident and a highly evident and a highly layered understory exists. Growing under a 50-75% canopy of Fraxinus nigra.
Associated Species: Thuja occidentalis, Abies balsamea, Betula alleghaniensis, Athyrium filix-femina, Caltha palustris, Cicuta maculata, Dryopteris carthusiana, Impatiens capensis, Lycopus uniflorus, Phegopteris connectilis, Scutellaria lateriflora, Symphyotrichum puniceum, Carex gracillima, Glyceria striata, Brachythecium salebrosum, Thuidium delicatulum
Description: Fruiting specimens 36cm tall.
