Habitat: Rather strongly-rolling terrain ... In remnant patches of dry prairie in portions of landfill not previously mined for sand / gravel, including 50-foot high hills. Sandy soil. Full sun. Associated species include Schizachrium scoparium, Andropogon gerardii, Poa compressa, Sorghastrum nutans, Aristida barisamea, Solidago nemoralis, S. rigida, Campanula rotundifolia, Artemisia campestris, Lechea intermedia, Rhus glabra.
