Gradually-rolling terrain ... In small, dry prairie remnant on margins of an inactive township gravel pit. Level area near old road ... and on slight slope near grove of young Populus tremuloides. Sandy-gravel soil. Associates include Andropogon gerardii, Poa compressa, P. pratensis, Sporobolus heterolepis Stipa spartea, Solidago speciaosa, Penstemon gracilis, Liatris punctata, L. aspera, Cirsium hilii, Artemisia ludoviciana, A. campestris, Aster ericoides, Petalostemum candidum, Calylophus serrulata, Heuchera richardsonii, Toxicodendron rydbergii.
