Habitat: on 6-foot high, east-facing basalt cliff face 50 feet above the lake. Below the population is an extremely steep, forested slope; below that is exposed cliff face. This location is on a small point immediately northeast of 75-foot high cliffs that rise directly out of lake. Plants occur in a deeply shaded spot
Associated Species: beneath Betula papyrifera, Picea glauca, Alnus viridis ssp. crispa, and Sorbus decora. Associated species include Cystopteris fragilis, Woodsia alpina, Solidago hispida, Achillea millefolium.
Notes: Local, forming sparse clumps
