Habitat: Occasional on lower portion of 40- to 70-foot, north to northeast-facing, mesic diabase cliff which forms upper portion of steep, 220-foot slope above small rapids in the river. Forms loose clumps on ledges and in crevices. Also in forested talus zone near cliff base. Shaded by Thuja occidentalis, Sorbus decora, Betula cordifolia, Alnus viridis, and Acer spicatum.
Associated Species: Shaded by Thuja occidentalis, Sorbus decora, Betula cordifolia, Alnus viridis, and Acer spicatum. Associates include Gymnocarpium jessoense, Woodsia ilvensis, Dryopteris fragrans, Solidago hispida, Aquilegia canadensis, Campanula rotundifolia, Huperzia selago, H. lucidula, H. porophila, Carex communis, C. deflexa.
