Habitat: Level to very gently rolling forested terrain ... In dry jack pine woodland. Partial to full shade beneath interrupted canopy of maturing, even-aged Pinus banksiana. Scattered Corylus americana in open understory. Coarse sand substrate. Thick moss mats carpet the ground. Associated species include Carex tonsa, Koeleria macrantha, Sorghastrum nutans, Oryzopsis pungens, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, Viola pedatifida.
