Either a rich fen or a rich fen/wet meadow complex occurs within a large tallgrass prairie. The area within the releve has numerous shallow depressions (45 centimeters by 30 centimeters of smaller, less than 15 centimeters deep) with either water or damp with moss. The soil in the releve appears to be muck, though portions may be mineral soil. The releve is dominated by Carex sterilis with smaller amounts of Andropogon gerardii, Juncus balticus, Muhlenbergia racemosa and Muhlenbergia richardsonis. Other species found within the releve include Cirsium muticum, Eriophorum angustifolium, Gentianopsis procera, Lobelia kalmii and Solidago riddellii.
