Description: Up to 9 inches in total length, snout to vent length 2 1/3 to 3 1/8 inches. This lizard has a slender body with a long tail. It is marked with six light yellow to yellow-green dorsal stripes from behind the eye to the base of the tail. Its body is brown or dark brown and bright green or yellow-green on the sides. Dorsal scales are rough and dull. (MN DNR, 2022)
Food: Grasshoppers, crickets, beetles, andts, flies, spiders, and other arthropods. (MN DNR, 2022)
Habitat: Open sandy or gravelly areas with little ground vegetation prairies on south facing bluffs and sand outwashes in river floodplains. They overwinter below the frost line in underground burrows, ordinarily self-excavated in loose soil. (MN DNR, 2022)
